5. Conclusion
Organic materials have become key players in the panorama of modern optoelectronics. All the classic components can now be found in organic versions: light-emitting diodes, lasers, transistors, sensors, photovoltaic cells, non-linear elements and more. In each case, the properties are different and often complementary to those of inorganic components. In many cases, such as in the case of lasers presented here, the use of organic materials provides access to functions that are difficult or impossible to achieve with inorganic devices, often at very low cost and with appreciable ease of manufacture. Organic lasers enable wide tunability across the visible spectrum, on a variety of (possibly flexible) substrates.
