6. Fields of application
The hybrid, crystalline nature of MOFs, their great chemical and structural diversity, and their controlled porosity have aroused great interest in a wide range of applications in fields linked to the environment, energy and health. These applications have been explored at varying degrees of maturity, historically with the study of gas storage and separation properties, followed by a gradual broadening towards catalysis, biomedicine, detection and capture of volatile organic compounds or heat transfer, among others.
6.1 Adsorption and separation of gases and vapors
Adsorption-related applications for MOFs have been the most extensively studied to date. MOFs can capture gas molecules for storage or separation.
