5. Conclusion
By adding the nanometric component to the structural dimensions – ligament size, grain size and porosity size –, metallic nanofoams stand out from foams as a range of materials in their own right. Metallic nanofoams are produced using specific techniques, such as selective dissolution and template methods, which produce stochastic and organized nanostructures respectively. The marked interest in these new materials in terms of properties and uses is linked to the structural effects produced by nanometric dimensions: very high specific surface area, very low density and mechanical behavior.
Nano-foams are the subject of a great deal of research into their development, processing, mechanical, physical and chemical properties, as well as the enhancement of new functions and their integration into systems. The surface, a site of chemical exchange and reaction, a zone...

Standards and norms
IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) nomenclature defines porosity size in terms of pore diameter: micropores are smaller than 2 nm, mesopores are between 2 and 50 nm and macropores are larger than 50 nm.
