2. Ferrite synthesis
Ferrites are synthetic mixed oxides developed at high temperatures from the primary oxides of transition metals. For example, nickel ferrite NiFe 2 O 4 is synthesized from iron and nickel oxides, NiO and Fe 2 O 3 respectively. Their synthesis leads either to polycrystalline materials, which today represent the best-selling magnetic ceramics, or to single crystals of lesser industrial importance.
