1.1 The right material for the right application

The characteristics of glass used in electrical engineering vary according to the application, whether it's molded glass or glass fiber. Generally speaking, the electrical properties of glass are of secondary importance (glass, by its very nature, has insulating properties), and it is above all the chemical and, initially, mechanical properties that are decisive.

In the case of molded parts, there are two main families, differentiated by the mechanical strength of the glass. Some parts that do not require high mechanical strength are molded and annealed. The mechanical limits of the material when annealed have led glass insulator manufacturers to develop and adapt the tempering process (more common in flat glass)...
