10. Conclusion
In the 1990s, the cement industry as a whole was calling for alkali-free cements to avoid the alkali-aggregate reaction. We countered this approach with a conference entitled High-Alkali cements for 21 th century concretes . It seemed obvious to us that the problems posed by CO 2 greenhouse gas emissions would eventually involve the introduction of new cements, such as geopolymer cements. But, in an industry like cement, strongly governed by compliance with strict technical standards, the development of these new products could not take place without the introduction of new standards....
