3. Elementary abrasion model and experimental simulation

Goddart and Wilman developed a simple model of contact between a hard rough solid and a softer solid, neglecting the elasticity of both solids. These models assume that the vertices of the rough solid are conical or spherical. Such models satisfactorily describe the contact of a hard solid of common roughness with a metallic solid. We first consider the case of perfectly lubricated conical vertices (τ r = 0), then extend the approach to the case of spherical vertices. Finally, we take into account the existence of friction on the micro-contacts. We then present the experimental simulation of the elementary phenomenon...
