1.1.1 Implementation of nanoindentation tests

At the fraction of a micrometer scale, from 0.05 to a few µm, nanoindentation tests measure the Young's modulus E and hardness H of material surfaces. These tests, known as instrumented indentation, involve driving a diamond indenter into the material, generally a Berkovich pyramid with a triangular base, equivalent in the sense of displaced volume to a Vickers square-based pyramid
