10.1.1 Plain bearings

  • Circular bores

    — Hydrodynamic rotation or oscillation: plain bearings require a minimum diametral clearance of at least 0.5 D /1,000, increasing with speed. The accumulation of machining tolerances on the shaft, housing and anti-friction part leads to a maximum clearance of 1.2 to 2 D /1,000.

    If the bearing is re-machined in place, the tolerance on the housing is gained...
