4. Protective coatings for concrete

4.1 Composition variability

Several families of protective coatings can be applied to the concrete skin (acrylic, polyurea, alkyd, polyester, vinyl, epoxy, silicate-based, etc.) . The level of open porosity of concrete, which varies according to its formulation and formwork conditions, requires the application of more or less viscous products in order to form a homogeneous coating. Concrete surfaces have little tolerance to over-application, which can lead to aesthetic or adhesion defects.
