4. Surface preparation
The main aim of surface preparation is to remove harmful substances and obtain a surface that will enable primer to adhere satisfactorily to the steel.
Long-standing experience has shown that the correct diagnosis of the initial surface condition, followed by the correct choice and execution of surface preparation, are crucial to the effectiveness and durability of the chosen protection. The best paints can give very poor results when applied to dirty, defective or poorly prepared substrates, or under unfavorable application conditions.
The role of the application contractor is therefore paramount. A dialogue is necessary between the contractor and the manufacturer to select the application conditions best suited to the parameters to be taken into account, such as the nature of the work, its environment, the planned or possible application...
