3.1 Paint constituents
A cationic paint consists of :
a cationic polymer main binder;
a pigment paste, composed of pigments and mineral fillers coated with a cationic resin. The resulting shade of a primer can vary from white to black, through various shades of grey;
organic solvents, mainly glycol ethers, which play an important role in film appearance. Their quantity has been steadily decreasing over the years, and their concentration is currently less than 5% (by mass) in the working bath;
demineralized water: this is the paint vehicle and the system's electrolysis medium.
