3. Deposit mining techniques

3.1 Mineral extraction

There is a big difference between sulphide and oxide ore deposits:

  • Sulphide ores are generally mined underground and can be found at varying depths (e.g. 1,000 to 2,000 m);

  • oxidized ores, by virtue of their genesis, are always located on the surface; they can therefore be mined by open-pit methods.
