1.1 Physical properties
Molybdenum, with atomic mass 95.94 ± 0.01, atomic number 42 and electronic configuration (Kr) 4 d 5 5 s 1 , is the second member of group VI of the periodic table. As a transition element, it can assume all valence degrees from 2 to 6, the most important being valence degrees 3, 5 and 6. It crystallizes in the centric cubic system, and its lattice has the following parameter at 25°C: a 0 = 0.314 72 nm.
