3. Geochemistry and deposits
In the earth's crust, the average concentration (or "clarke") of bismuth is around 0.2 g/tonne, with a higher abundance in the continental crust than in the mantle. .
The geochemical behavior of bismuth is chalcophilic, like that of Sb or As. It also combines with sulfur, selenium, tellurium and other chalcophilic metals, such as Pb and Zn.
