hydrometallurgy; hydrometallurgy

A liquid extractive metallurgy method involving the dissolving of various metals contained in an ore or concentrate, with a view to their separation and recovery.

A typical hydrometallurgical process comprises the following steps:

  • leaching (or dissolution),

  • metal separation,

  • recovery of the desired metal (by electrolysis, filtration, etc.).

Pyrometallurgical method for separating a metal from an ore or its alloys, involving heating the material to a temperature such that the molten metal can then be separated from the other components that remain solid.
