4. Zero liquid discharge

The cost of treatment, the potential problems posed by effluent - even if it is well purified and compliant - and the fate of sludge, have all led to the development of a new way of managing rinse water, which some companies are already putting into practice. This is zero liquid discharge.

It should be noted that, since 2000, all permit applications must include a technico-economic feasibility study for zero liquid discharge.

4.1 Zero liquid discharge principle
