4. Recovery – Purification
Out-of-use treatment baths and rinsing baths that cannot be remounted contain valuable raw materials (metals, solutions) that can be recovered and recycled.
To be reassembled, baths often require purification treatments. The same technique can be used for all these operations.
The most commonly used are described below.
4.1 Simple electrolysis
Electrolysis of an aqueous solution has three effects:
heating of the solution due to the passage of current (Joule effect);
material transport from one electrode to the other (Hittdorf effect);
an electrochemical reaction at the electrode/solution interface...
