1. Importance of specifications

Examination of the systems on offer shows that a paint system cannot be applied without first drawing up specifications. These must include the following information:

  • chemical nature of the metal used ;

  • surface treatment, whose role is to ensure the adhesion of the first coat of paint;

  • environment in which the painted metal will be exposed;

  • service life offered to the user ;

  • compliance with environmental regulations through the use of waterborne paints, except when systems are subjected to aggressive environments, for which solvent-based systems are preferred.
