INTRODUCTION
The industrial world's commitment to quality has made inspection an essential phase in the life of a product. Checking that a product conforms to the customer's specifications has therefore become a "natural" procedure. Now more than ever, it is essential to guide the user in the choice of checks to be carried out, so that the inspection leads to credible results.
A specific difficulty with coating controls is that the operation is carried out on a product that has reached its maximum production cost. The final stage must therefore be carried out with discernment. Three checks seem essential and concern all coatings: appearance, adhesion and thickness. The other checks described relate to the specific properties of the coating: of course, corrodibility concerns a large proportion of these coatings, but the increase in industrial applications broadens the range of specific properties to be checked. .
It is important to emphasize here the role of non-destructive methods, which can be applied to any part produced and provide highly representative results.
