3. Main processes and their applications

3.1 Barrier anodizing

This process is industrially available only for high-purity aluminum. A particular application has been proposed in the field of optics by Hass and Bradford , which consists of anodizing vacuum-deposited aluminum in alternating layers with titanium oxide in a barrier environment, all on a glass substrate. With the right choice of anodizing voltage and deposited thickness, it is possible to significantly improve metal reflectivity by combining refractive indices.
