4.1 Spheroidal graphite cast irons with reinforced ferritic matrix

EN-GJS-450-18, EN-GJS-500-14 and EN-GJS-600-10 are silicon-reinforced ferritic matrix cast irons to meet mechanical property requirements. They have been added to the 2012 EN 1563 standard. .

Ferrite with a cubic-centered crystal lattice dissolves practically no carbon at room temperature (less than 0.01%). To enable ferrite formation during the eutectoidal transformation (from austenite to ferrite), carbon must diffuse into the graphite spheres. This phenomenon explains...
