1. Semi-solid state

In some shaping processes, a liquid phase and a solid phase are present at the same time, particularly during the liquid phase sintering of powders with different melting temperatures and during solidification. These two phases also coexist during remelting of a previously solidified alloy. For solidification and remelting, the cases concerned by rheoforming and thixoforming, the range of coexistence of the liquid and solid phases is limited by the liquidus and solidus lines of the phase diagram, which also fixes, under equilibrium conditions, their chemical compositions and proportions ( ,
