4. Additives

Additives are all those products which, when added to sand, give it properties other than mechanical strength, but which are nonetheless essential for successful molding:

  • or at the time of sand processing;

  • or by modifying the behavior of sands with respect to liquid metals.

4.1 Reducing atmosphere additives

Particularly in the case of ferrous metal casting, these products are designed to prevent the formation of oxides likely to react with the basic components of the sand. This greatly facilitates part stripping.
