4. Aluminium alloy melting

As aluminum is a metal that is highly sensitive to oxidation, great care must be taken in this operation.

The chemical composition of the product must be strictly adhered to, which implies rigorous application rules.

4.1 Quality criteria for a liquid alloy

There are 5 criteria:

  • respect for chemical composition ;

  • inclusionary cleanliness (absence of oxides and exogenous inclusions);

  • absence of dissolved hydrogen ;

  • suitable metallurgical treatments ;

  • homogeneity.
