6. Soil liquefaction prevention systems
Preventive measures against soil liquefaction consist in intervening in the soil to increase its resistance or drainage capacity, or to reduce the seismic action, in order to increase the safety coefficient F SL against liquefaction in the simplified approach.
They can also involve eliminating a condition conducive to liquefaction, by removing the presence of water through permanent lowering of the water table, or by replacing the soil in place with a non-liquefiable material.
Numerous techniques are in use. The structure and its reinforced zones must be considered as a whole, where masses, static forces and resistant elements coexist.
