2. Actions for limit state design

2.1 Definition of actions

A distinction is made between serviceability limit states (SLS) and ultimate limit states (ULS). With regard to the bearing capacity of foundations, it should be noted that for each of these limit states, we must, on the one hand, form action combinations in order to determine the load on the foundation F d and, on the other hand, determine the soil resistance R d which, in turn, is a function of the limit state considered (cf. § 6.2
