10. General conclusion

This general overview of surface, borehole and logging geophysical methods shows that geophysicists can make a rich and varied contribution to the reconnaissance process, thanks to the diversity of their techniques. However, it is important to understand the fields of application and their limitations.

Their implementation and interpretation is a matter for specialists, who are able to choose from the whole range of techniques those most appropriate to the problems to be solved.

Reconnaissance must be carefully thought through, and the methodology must logically draw on a range of methods, including geophysical ones. The results obtained at each stage are used to reinterpret those obtained at previous stages and to optimize subsequent stages, in order to arrive at a reliable and coherent model of the terrain on which to build.
