1. Reminder of essential concepts

Kinematic interaction is the difference between free-field seismic movement (ground deformation due to the passage of seismic waves in the absence of man-made structures interfering with their propagation) and the movement corresponding to the presence of a structure on the surface and its foundation method (shallow foundations, deep foundations).

It results solely from the difference in "stiffness" between the soil and the foundation, counteracting the movements imposed by the soil [C251] .

Free-field seismic motion is the deformation of the ground as seismic waves pass over it, in the absence of superstructures that can influence their propagation.
