5. Analog representation of inertial interaction

5.1 Principle

The developments outlined in the previous chapter implicitly assume that the structure and foundation are integral with the ground. This assumption ignores any soil-structure interaction effect that could lead to a modification of the structure's "dynamic identity" (modification of the natural period and/or damping).
