6. Conclusion
The temporary storage of carbon in buildings can be taken into account by carrying out a year-by-year analysis of the greenhouse gases emitted or sequestered throughout the life of products and construction solutions. This requires a precise life-cycle inventory, using the usual LCA databases and approaches. Replacing conventional materials with bio-sourced materials, and thus temporarily storing biogenic carbon, makes sense in mainland France, since the current construction market is over 90% non-bio-sourced.
A change in practice will therefore have an immediate and long-term effect. This effect will be all the more beneficial if certain conditions are met.
