5. Laser beam scattering by infinite cylinders

The theory of the interaction between a plane wave and an infinite cylinder is due to Wait [66] (see also reference [10] ). The generalized theory has recently been established, and the computational codes needed to use it are under development, although some special cases are already accessible.

In its most general form, the generalized theory must be expressed in the framework of Laurent Schwartz's distribution theory [67][68] , which gives it a more abstract and complex character than in the case of the sphere [69][70]
