4. Applications

In this section, we present the main industrial and scientific fields in which fiber lasers are used, as well as a few more marginal applications that are nonetheless representative of the advantages offered by these sources. Of course, this brief presentation does not claim to be exhaustive, and the field of applications is evolving rapidly with technological developments.

4.1 Optical telecommunications

Rare-earth-doped fibers have historically been developed in the context of optical telecommunications.
