3. Influence of the physico-chemical state of the material

Resistivity values are experimental and are therefore only a more or less satisfactory approach to the intrinsic value of the material. In fact, resistivity is profoundly influenced by the presence of foreign elements, even in trace amounts, as well as by the structural state of the material, the result of previous mechanical and thermal treatments.

3.1 Chemical composition

Foreign atoms, chemically different from the base metal, are always present, as an ideally pure metal cannot be obtained. At this stage, impurity concentrations are generally measured in parts per million (ppm), i.e. 10 –4 %, which corresponds to a concentration of 1 g/t; certain impurities can have a significant influence from this threshold....
