4. Conclusion

Research into new dielectric materials mainly concerns two fields: electronic capacitors and energy storage. In the first case, constraints linked to the reduction in the size of circuits impose multiple convergences:

  • between the chemistry of polymers and that of inorganic materials to create composites or hybrid compounds;

  • between silicon and polarizable oxide technology for integrating capacitors in active circuits;

  • between the physics and chemistry of materials to enhance the multifunctionality of dielectrics;

  • between experimenters and theorists, thanks to recent developments in electronic structure calculations that enable modelling to predict certain trends.
