
5. Workshop design
5.1 Context
This is a major problem in which the workshop configuration and operating conditions of the various stages are sought, usually with the aim of minimizing an investment cost.
By way of illustration, figure 9 groups together the discrete variables corresponding to the workshop configuration: number of pieces of equipment at each processing stage and equipment size (volumes and surface areas have been discretized into three sizes: large, medium and small).
