The main objectives of process simulators are as follows:
solve material and energy balance equations for all process equipment;
calculate the characteristics (flow rate, composition, temperature, pressure, physical properties) for all fluids flowing between the devices;
provide the information needed to size equipment, such as heat exchange quantities or internal column flow rates.
In addition to these objectives, there are :
estimated investment and operating costs and, in the context of sustainable development, the impact on the environment and safety;
optimization of process operating conditions.
