4. Technologies and reactors

The configuration of air treatment reactors is a key factor in process efficiency. It must ensure effective contact between the catalyst and the photons, on the one hand, and between the catalyst and the pollutants, on the other. Pressure drop must also be kept to a minimum. In this section, we present various continuous-flow photoreactors used both in the laboratory and on an industrial scale.

4.1 Batch reactors

These reactors generally consist of a thermostatically-controlled glass vessel into which a mercury lamp (itself cooled) is placed. The catalyst is deposited at the bottom of the vessel, either in suspension or pressed against the walls in the case of a supported catalyst.
