Hydrodynamic phenomena at the reactor scale can influence the performance of fixed-bed catalytic reactors. In addition to the problems associated with poor distribution, high axial dispersion can reduce the performance of laboratory or pilot-scale reactors. As for radial dispersion, it conditions the quality of initial or intermediate reactant distribution.
