3.1 Introduction to gas-solid reactions
Consumable solids are those which react directly with the gaseous reagent.
There are two types of reactions with consumable solids:
those which produce a gaseous product, leading to a decrease in particle size as the reaction progresses (figure 6 a );
those that result in the formation of a solid product on the particle surface, without any appreciable change in particle size (figure
