3.1 Physico-chemical properties
At room temperature, toluene is a colorless liquid with an aromatic odor. Toluene is practically insoluble in water (0.535 g/L at 25°C), but is miscible with many organic solvents (acetone, diethyl ether, chloroform, ethanol, etc.) and soluble in glacial acetic acid. Toluene is an excellent solvent for many natural and synthetic substances (oils, fats, resins).
