At room temperature, benzene is a colorless liquid with a strong aromatic odor, less dense than water, in which it is practically insoluble (0.180 g per 100 g at 25°C). It is miscible with most organic solvents and forms azeotropic mixtures with water, certain alcohols and hydrocarbons.
