3. L3VPN IPv6 over an MPLS IPv4 core
This section describes the L3VPN IPv6 solution on an IPv4-only MPLS core network, which is the most common solution for operators beginning the transition from MPLS VPN service to IPv6.
3.1 IPv6 route signalling for BGP/MPLS VPNs
Figure 8 shows a 6VPE topology in which 4 PEs activate the function and support IPv6 VRFs. On this core, special MP-BGP sessions enable the exchange of 6VPE routes, as explained in the following paragraphs. Figure 8 shows an example of a route as presented in the BGP RIB of a 6VPE router.
