6. The main SSH distributions

There are several distributions of the SSH protocol, the two most important of which are OpenSSH , which comes with most Linux versions, and Tectia from SSH inc .

OpenSSH is a free, GNU-licensed implementation of the SSH protocol. The project was initially supported by the OpenBSD project: it was a reworking of SSH protocol version 1.2.12 (the latest free version from Tau Ylönen), integrated into the OpenBSD 2.6 operating system.
