3. Authentication management
ActiveDirectory servers and LDAP directories are increasingly being used to authenticate users centrally. This greatly facilitates user management. Coupled with an application relay, however, it becomes possible to set Internet access authorizations (or not) for specific individuals. For Squid, it's just a matter of setting up an "external ACL".
3.1 External LCDs
Squid relies on external software, called helpers, to provide a number of access controls. The interface between Squid and its helper is very simple: a parameter defines the helper and the arguments it needs. The helper is executed at the appropriate time and can return two values.
