ABSTRACT

With the launching of the HTTP protocol and the Internet, the needs for communication between one perimeter to another significantly increased. In order to ensure secure access to the Internet, solutions such as the firewall were developed. These services used to be provided via application relays, generated within network services such as DNS or SMTP or developed in order to ensure these security functions. This article presents the implementation of an application relay which was initially destined to manage the HTTP protocol, and the essential aspects of the implementation of such a service as well as the tools provided by the software.

 INTRODUCTION

With the advent of the HTTP protocol and the Internet, the need to communicate from one perimeter to another multiplied exponentially. With everyone developing their own personal or corporate site, thousands of items of information became available to those connected to the network.

Solutions such as firewalls were created to ensure secure access to the Internet. But before that, these services were provided by application relays, whether natively managed in network services such as DNS or SMTP, or created specifically to perform these security functions.

In this article, we'll look at the implementation of an application relay designed primarily to handle the HTTP protocol, although it can also handle other protocols. We'll look at the most important points in implementing such a service, using the tools provided by the software.

In the following article , we will present some advanced functions, often very useful, some of which are based on third-party software, and designed to considerably improve part of the application relay service, or enable interfacing with large-scale services (central authentication, etc.).
