1. Mathematical notation

As humanity evolved, it became aware of the mathematical (or at least arithmetical) dimension of the world in which it lived. Very quickly, the need arose to engrave numbers and operations on media. This was the beginning of mathematical notation.

30,000 B.C., Paleolithic man notched wood or bone to count elements of his daily life. Around 3,000 BC, in Sumer, Mesopotamia, the first written numeration appeared with the introduction of writing.

The evolution of science and its associated tools means that today, beyond the simple need to communicate, we need to formalize our modes of mathematical expression.

Today, mathematical notation has to meet very different needs. Depending on the type of operation, the expression will certainly be different. If there were a corresponding notation for every need, the redundancy...
