4. Features

Python is strongly inspired by the ABC and SmallTalk languages, which offer an "all-object" model and, in the case of the former, a console for direct interaction with the interpreter. It differs from its predecessors in its portability and openness: its creator's aim was to offer a language that was easily extensible and could be used on as many platforms as possible.

4.1 Main implementations

The standard Python implementation is developed in C, but other parallel projects exist to run the interpreter in different environments.
