2.1 Development model
Sun, through its J2ME, J2SE and J2EE specifications, has opted for a monolanguage approach (Java) by building a specific virtual machine for it, the JVM (Java Virtual Machine), which can be easily ported to different platforms. This choice may be justified if the language is sufficiently generic to take into account the different needs of programmers, and sufficiently widespread to enable applications to run on an ever-growing number of sites.
