6. Some LDAP-based tools

Although the examples given throughout this report refer to the tool proposed by the OpenLDAP project, it is not the only one on the market. In fact, there are many other tools whose core is built around LDAP. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

  • Active Directory; name of Microsoft's directory service. Special feature: the least "compatible" of the LDAP servers;

  • Sun Java System Directory Server Enterprise Edition; as its name suggests, this is Sun Microsystem's directory server;

  • Fedora Directory Server (free); RedHat LDAP server derived from the Netscape server ;

  • Oracle Internet Directory; directory server from Oracle.
